Srinagar, June 28 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) has earned a revenue of Rs 12.50 crore during April and May this year by operating 1192 vehicles across the state.
Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen stated this at a high- level meeting here last evening.
The SRTC operated 144 buses from Jammu to other northern states of the country, he said.
Stressing the need for revitalising the SRTC so that safe transport facilities were provided to the people in the state, Mr Yaseen said, the state government would provide a budgetary support of Rs 17 crore to the corporation during the current fiscal to strengthen its functioning and infrastructure.
The Minister called for mobilisation of all available resources of the SRTC for generating revenue adding, ''Unless the corporation stands on its own legs, it will not survive''.
Mr Yaseen directed for computerising all the records of the SRTC and asked it to perform operation report of buses and truck services on daily basis for regular monitoring.
He stressed on the SRTC officers and employees to adopt work culture and honest administrative management to make the corporation profitable.
The department purchase committee would be revived to make it more transparent the Minister said, adding that three teams of officers would be constituted to monitor the SRTC functioning.
