Freedom fighter wants enquiry into pensions
Puducherry, June 28 (UNI) Alleging people with criminal backgrounds and those from other states enjoying the benefit of freedom fighters pension in the union territory, Former MLA and Freedom Fighter A Arulraj today urged the administration to conduct an enquiry and initiate stringent action against those who availed the benefit of freeom fighters pension by submitting forged certificates.
In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister, a copy of which was released to the press here, Mr Arulraj detailed his experience during the freedom struggle and said hardly 300 people had fought against French colonialism.
He was pained to note over 3,000 persons were now getting freedom fighters pension.
Mr Arulraj, who forwarded the copies of the memorandum to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Puducherry Lt Governor threatened to organise a fast before the Raj Nivas if no action was taken.
