DFT demands action against officials for baton-charge on teachers
New Delhi, Jun 28 (UNI) Condemning police action on Madhya Pradesh's shiksha guarantee schools' contract teachers, the Democratic Teachers' Front today said the incident had yet again exposed the ''autocratic and undemocratic face'' of the BJP Governemnt.
''After the murder of Prof Sabharwal in Ujjain and violence in Vadorara's MS University, the violence inflicted on teachers through lathi-charge and teargas is a ghastly and undemocratic act..,'' DTF President Sanjaya Kumar Bohidar said.
Several agitating teachers, demanding better salaries and designation, were lathicharged in Bhopal on June 25 by police as they were advancing towards the Chief Minister's residence.
Mr Bohidar condemned the ''intolerant attitude'' of the BJP and the RSS towards teachers and educational institutions.
Demanding an immediate end to contractual appointments in the education sector, he said the demand of regularisation of services and parity of pay must be fulfilled.
He said the officials responsible for action on the protesting teachers should be brought to book.
''Action should be taken immediately against them,'' he added.
