Dairy milk collection paralysed in western Maharashtra
Kolhapur, Jun 28 (UNI) Milk collection from a number of dairies in western Maharashtra was paralysed on the second day today, following milk collection bandh agitation called by Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS).
SSS has launched indefinite agitation since yesterday demanding a hike in milk rates from the existing Rs 12 to Rs 18 per liter for milk with six per cent fat to the milk supplying farmers.
The bandh evoked good response in western Maharashtra's Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara districts, where milk producing farmers largely joined the bandh agitation, SSS spokesman said here.
Some incidents of pouring milk in the sugarcane field and on the roads from milk carrying tankers and stone pelting on tankers were reported in these districts, although the bandh remained largely peaceful, police sources said.
So far, the milk shortage problem is not seen in Kolhapur, Sangli districts due to milk stocks with various dairies, which are reportedly sufficient till tomorrow, dairy sources said.
