TN: Centre revises Railway reservation policy
Chennai, June 28: The Railway Ministry has revised the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) policy aimed at simplifying issue of train tickets and reach out to passengers more effectively.
Railway sources here today said ticket counters can now be established on university and college campuses, collectorate premises and airport among other places.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will provide the technology under the corporate houses scheme.
Institutions seeking reservation counters on their premises have to enter into a MoU with the IRCTC.At places where there is no railway station, particularly the district headquarters, PRS would be opened in a post office and manned by postal staff on mutually agreed terms and conditions.
In metros, additional PRS centres would be created in satellite centres with a population of four lakh or more with no reservation counter within a 15-km radius.
Ticketing centres coming up at places without railway station such as hilly terrain and far-flung areas such as North East would be manned by state government employees.
