Centre releases funds to Bihar for road construction
New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) The Centre has released Rs 5.82 crore to Bihar for construction of roads in four districts under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna.
The Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned the amount to the Central Public Works Department, the nominated Central Agency for implementation of the PMGSY, for road construction in Begusarai, Darbhanga, Madhubani and Samastipur Districts of Bihar.
The grant is towards the Plan expenditure and will be subject to the conditions laid down from time to time in the guidelines of the PMGSY.
PMGSY the was launched in December 2000 as a 100 per cent Centrally Sponsored Scheme with a target of connecting every habitation that has a population of more than 1000 within the next three years and every habitation with a population of more than 500 by 2007 i.e. by the end of the 10th Five Year Plan through good all-weather road. A sum of Rs 20,400.70 crore has been released to the States/UTs towards the programme and up to December 2006, 35,868 roadworks covering a length of 1,07,569.08 Km. have been completed.
Meanwhile, Grants-in-aid amounting to Rs 69.16 crore has been given to Tamil Nadu as Central assistance for the implementation of the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana. The amount has been given to 19 districts towards balance of first instalment of funds to 19 Districts of Tamil Nadu during the current financial year.
