Army Vice Chief Flags-in NCC's Kalanag Expdn
New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) Vice Chief of the Army Staff Lt General Deepak Kapoor today called upon the NCC cadets to inculcate the spirit of adventure and discipline to tackle challenges posed in life.
Flagging-in here the successful NCC Boys Mountaineering expedition to the Kalanag peak in the Garhwal Himalayas, Lt Gen Kapoor said activities like this would go a long way in promoting the spirit of adventure among the youth and nurture qualities of character, courage, leadership and comradeship.
He also complimented the 20-member team of NCC cadets and officers for scaling the 20,956 ft-high peak -- considered very difficult and highly treacherous.
Earlier, NCC Director General Lt General Prakash S Chaudhary, in his welcome address, highlighted the prorgammes and activities of the NCC.
He said this was the 59th mountaineering expedition launched by the NCC and yet another NCC Girls mountaineering expedition would be launched in August later this year.
The conquering team, led by Lt Colonel Amrek Singh, scaled the peak on June 13 last.
While trekking, the NCC cadets also cleared the route of plastic and other non-biodegradable garbage.
Besides, doctors and paramedics accompanying the expedition held free medical camps for the benefit of the local populace residing in these remote and inaccessible areas of the Garhwal Himalayas.
