Alipore court directed to expedite hearing

Kolkata, Jun 28 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today directed Alipore district sessions court to expedite the hearing of the criminal suit, filed by the Birlas against Birla Corporation Chairman R S Lodha.

Justice Amit Talukder held that the hearing of the case should be conducted at least thrice a week if not the accused were chargesheeted.

The hearing should be conducted regurlarly if chargesheet was issued.

Justice Talukdar issued the directive on an appeal of the Birla, saying the suit was not being heard the proper way and complained to the court that the hearing was delayed for unknown reason.

Birlas filed a criminal case against Mr Lodha and his four associates that the latter had siphoned off valuable items and some important documents from Ms Priyamvada Birla's house in the city.

Birlas and Lodha were locked in a number of legal battles after Ms Birla died years back and Mr Lodha disclosed before Birla families that M P Birla empire of Rs 4000 crore had been bequeathed on him by a will.
