Sikkim: Two killed in mudslide near Gangtok

Gangtok, June 27: Two people were killed when their thatched house came under a mudslide, triggered by heavy rains at Bojoghari in upper Gangtok last night, police said today.

Heavy rainfall had led water flooding into the thatched house of the Thapa family at Bojoghari. While a couple of family members ventured outside to block the seepage of water into the house, a slush of mud and water washed away the house midnight last night.

Two members, Om Bahadur Thapa (68) and Karma Thapa (9), who were in the house, were buried alive. A third member, Kalpana Thapa, sustained injuries and was admitted to a local hospital.
