Bhopal, June 27 (UNI) In the wake of the controversy on the marketing of luxury condom 'Crezendo' along with vibrating ring after a BJP Minister in Madhya Pradesh labelled it as 'sex toy', the public sector Hindustan Latex Limited has launched a survey to assess the use and availability of contraceptives in the state.

Health department's Principal Secretary M M Upadhyay told reporters here today that 'Contraceptive Privilege Survey' had been started a fortnight ago to evaluate the requirement, availability, sources and choice of contraceptives in the state. The survey's focus will be rural areas and the couples in reproductive age group will be counselled on the use of contraceptives, he said.

''This survey, costing about Rs 50 lakh, will be conducted in 4-5 months'', asserted Mr Upadhyay, adding total fertility rate in this state is 3.25 per couple with women in 15-35 age group but it shall be shunned down to 2 to stabilise the state's population.

''No study was carried out so far in this direction about access of contraception and population control. This will be special on its own kind'', Mr Upadhay added.

Energy Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has taken exception to marketing of the Crezendo condom in the state and sent a letter directly to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking to withdraw it from the market dubbing it as ''sex toy''.

UNI KV SP 1623 This report makes two observations -- Poor people constitutes large portion of urban growth, and rather than migeration urban growth comes from natural increase mostly.
