Mangalore, June 27 (UNI) To study the feasibility of investment opportunities in this port city, a business delegation from Singapore will visit here in the next six months, Singapore Consul General in Chennai Ajit Singh has said.

Addressing a meeting at the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry here last evening, he said his country was interested in investing in emerging cities in Karnataka, including Mangalore. If the delegation chose the city, investments would be in the areas of IT parks, township, infrastructure, trade and commerce, he added.

The envoy said Indian companies have bright business opportunities in Singapore, where proper accommodative atmosphere existed. Likewise, the Indian Government should create such an environment with proper primary development steps, for foreign investors who want to invest here.

Mr Singh said Singapore was also keen on lending expertise in setting up IT parks in tier-two cities like Coimbatore and Pondicherry, where it had executed projects. The IT park venture by Singapore in Chennai was running to capacity and the second and third phase of the IT Park project had been booked to capacity even before it could take off, he noted.

He said Singapore was scouting for collaborations to set up integrated township for the proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) here. The Singapore Port Authority had evinced interest to set up a second terminal at Chennai port and the Singapore Government was keen on working on the airport expansion project in Chennai, he added.
