Six sentenced to life in 2004 murder case
Barrackpore, Jun 27 (UNI) Altogether six persons were sentenced to life by a Sessions court here in a 2004 murder case under Dum Dum police station in North 24 Parganas today.
However, three of the accused were still at large following the murder of a person in Gorabazar area.
Additional District and Session Judge Dibyajyoti Dey awarded the life term yesterday and slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on each alongwith an additional imprisonment of one month in case of default.
The prosecution said the deceased was murdered by a gang of assailants at Gorabazar on June 17, 2004, while a case was registered under sections 302 and 34 IPC along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
Incidentally, defence lawyers have claimed that the person, who was then accompanying the victim at the time of assassination, was not at all considered as witness and examined during trials.
However, the convicts said they had no more faith on justice and would not move the upper court. They also prayed to the session judge to hand over the copy of judgment directly to their hands in the jail.
Besides, the convicts also lodged complaints with the judge praying security to their families as the victim's brother and his associates had ransacked their houses last night.
Dum Dum police station also refused to entertain any complaint from the suffering family members.
The Session Judge had directed the Inspector in-Charge of Dum Dum police station to ensure that the family members of the convicts were not harassed.
