Rupee falls further by 6 paise; closes at 41.00

Mumbai, June 27: Indian rupee lost further by six paise against the American Greenback to settle at Rs 41.00 per U S unit from its previous close of Rs 40.93/94 a dollar, amidst volatile trading at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market today.

The local currency opened weak at Rs 40.96, surpassing the Rs 41 level, it fell to the day's low of Rs 41.06, before finishing at Rs 41.00 per dollar, dealers said.

The rupee has posted a decline by 25 paise in last three sessions during the current week so far.

Dealers attributed the weakness and fall in the rupee value to the fresh capital inflow and unlikely intervention by the Central Bank.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has fixed its reference rate at Rs 41.01 lower than the previous day's rate of Rs 40.95.

In the forwards, the sixth months and annualised forward premia were closed higher at 3.27 (2.92) and 2.98 (2.78) per cent respectively.

The rupee also ended lower against the world major currencies. It finished lower at Rs 55.10 (54.90). Closed weak at Rs 81.85 (81.65) against per Pound and also finished lower against the Japanese Yen at Rs 33.47 (33.16) per 100 yen.
