Reconstruction work at Port in August
Machilipatnam, June 27 (UNI) The foundation stone for the reconstruction work of the ancient Machilipatnam Port would be laid in the month of August this year, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Ports M Venkataramana Rao said here today.
Talking to newspersons after visiting the Gilakaladindi sea mouth in Krishna district, Mr Rao said the work would be completed by the end of year 2009.
The Minister assured that the Gilakaladindi area, the confluence point of the sea, would be developed to facilitate free movement of mechanised boats from fishing harbour to sea.
Animal Husbandry and Fishing Minister Mandali Budda Prasad who also visited Gilakaladindi, said an additional oil bunk would be set up here very soon to meet the increased utilisation demand of diesel by the mechanised boats.
The State Government had provided a Rs 75 crore special package for the development of the fishermen community in the state, he said.
