Bhubaneswar, June 27 (UNI) The Opposition Congress today stalled the business of state Assembly demanding a debate on the ''deteriorating law and order'' situation in the state.

As pandemonium prevailed during the zero hour over the issue, speaker Maheswar Mohanty adjourned the house for 30 minutes.

When the House reassembled, deputy speaker Prahallad Dora, who was in the chair, was also forced to adjourn it till 1500 hours without transacting any business.

The issue came up when Congress' deputy leader Narashingha Mishra demanded a fresh debate on the law and order situation, he raised on June 25, but it was not taken up as the Chief Minister was absent.

When the speaker said the matter would be taken up tomorrow, Mr Mishra quipped saying why it should not be debated today. Soon all the Congress members rose to their feet and demanded the debate suspending all business of the house. The Opposition then trooped into the well and shouted slogans in support of the debate.

Sensing the mood of the Opposition, Mr Mohanty adjourned the house for 30 minutes.

When the house reassembled, the Congress members reiterated their demand and disrupted the business.

This time deputy speaker Prahallad Dora tried his best to pacify them stating that the motion would be taken up tomorrow but a determined Opposition rejected his plea.

Mr Dora waited for few minutes and then adjourned the house till 1500 hours for lunch.
