New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) The Rajya Sabha Secretariat has denied that it had received any petition last month seeking disqualification of former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh from the membership of the Upper House.

A Rajya Sabha Secretariat source said it had received a petition from the Congress Party on June 26 regarding Mr Singh, but before that no such petition was received.

This denial is significant in view of Congress Spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi's statement yesterday that the petition, seeking disqualification of Mr Singh was sent last month to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat but it was rejected on technical ground. So a fresh petition had been sent again.

Meanwhile, NDA spokesperson Sushma Swaraj said she had checked with the Rajya Sabha Secretariat that no such petition against Mr Singh was filed in May. The wrong information was being given to influence the voters in the Presidential election and the NDA would complain against it to the Election Commission, she added.
