Meghalaya rewards toppers with a laptop

Shillong, Jun 27 (UNI) In order to boost the morale of student's community in Meghalaya, the Information and Technology Department has awarded the toppers in both SSLC and HSSLC examinations with a laptop each.

Chief Minister DD Lapang, who awarded the toppers yesterday at the first ever Meghalaya IT Awards lauded the initiatives of the IT Department in recognising the toppers in various examinations, adding that this will inspire the other students the spirit of competition.

Mr Lapang also informed that with the rapid development in IT, computers were not only shrinking in size but are becoming the more powerful.

State Legislator and Editor of The Shillong Times, Mr Manas Chaudhuri expressed concern over the numbers of students leaving the state to serve in other states.

''There is no problem in going outside for pursuing their studies but they should ensure they come back and work for the betterment of the state,'' Mr Chaudhuri said.
