MCOCA court acquits Sharma, Sawant in fake stamp paper case
Pune, June 27 (UNI) A special court today acquitted former Mumbai Police Commissioner R S Sharma and former Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Pradeep Sawant in the multi-crore Telgi fake stamp paper case.
Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act(MCOCA) Special Judge Chitra K Bhedi acquitted the former Commissioner for ''lack of sufficient evidence.'' It also cleared the high profile DCP, who headed the elite encounter squad that broke the backbone of the underworld in the metropolis and Police Inspector Vashist Andhale of all charges.
Speaking to mediapersons after his acquittal, Mr Sharma, alleged that some officers of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), including O P Bali and Subodh Jayaswal, had tried to frame him.
''The two wanted to pad untruths against me. But I had always maintained my innocence. This victory today has reaffirmed my faith in the Indian Judicial system. Satyamev Jayate (the truth shall prevail),'' Mr Sharma said.
