K'taka Govt to implement BRTS in Mysore in two months

Bangalore, June 27 (UNI) A Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) to promote usage of public transport will be introduced in the city of Mysore, Karnataka Transport Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the project, sponsored by the Centre, would be commissioned in the next two months in Mysore. The project, aimed at discouraging the use of more private vehicles, would be completed in the next four years with an investment of Rs 615 crore. However, details for the project in the city were not made available.

Mr Cheluvarayaswamy said, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) would take up several other development projects like augmentation of 740 new schedules, purchase of 1,550 new buses, including 50 Volvo buses, and Inter Model Transit Centre at Peenya in the city in the coming months. It had also taken up upgradation of infrastructure facilities at bus stations across the State.

The KSRTC's revenue reached an all time height of Rs 1,272 crore in 2006-07, a growth of 17 per cent as against Rs 1,086 crore in 2005-06, he said.
