Kar Govt to implement BRTS in Mysore in two months

Bangalore, June 27 (UNI) Karnataka Transport Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy today said a Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in Mysore to promote using of public transport by the commuters will be introduced in the city and Mysore.

Talking to newsmen here he said the project, sponsored by the Centre, would be commissioned in the next two months in Mysore. The project, aimed at discouraging use of more private vehicles, would be completed in next four years by involving an investment of Rs 615 crore, he said. However, details for the project in the city were not made available.

He said the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, with its estimated revenue for the current year would take up several other development projects like augmentation of 740 new schedules, purchase of 1550 new buses including 50 Volvo buses besides Inter Model Transit Centre at Peenya in the city in the coming months.

It had also taken up several upgradation of infrastruture facilities at bus stations across the state, he said.

The Corporation revenue reached an all time high of Rs 1272 crore for 2006-07, a growth of 17 per cent as against Rs 1086 crore during 2005-06.
