Kalam to inaugurate catheter manufacturing facility on Jun 29
Hyderabad, June 27 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam will inaugurate Asia's first Catheter manufacturing facility set up, Relisys Medical Devices Limited, at Mangalapally village in Rangan Reddy district on June 29.
Relisys Medical Devices Limited Chairman Krishna Reddy, in a release here today, said the facility had been set up as per the Global Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards and it had a Research and Development Unit.
He said the company plans to develop international quality products at local costs.
Catheters were used in various angiographic procedures in Radiology and Cardiology, which were currently being imported at a very high cost.
Mr Reddy said this was the dream project of Dr Kalam, who was responsible for inventing the first indigenous coronary stent 'Kalam-Raju stent', India's first indigenously-developed stent in 1998.
He said the company's goal was to acquire technological capabilities to manufacture various medical disposables, provide cost-effective and high quality products, compete in the international market and finally perform cutting-edge research to offer new generation technologies.
