Israel kills Palestinian militant in Gaza: Medics

Gaza, June 27: Israeli forces killed a militant from the Islamic Jihad group today during a raid against gunmen near the town of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian medics and witnesses said.

The Israeli army said it was checking the report.

The Palestinian medics said two more Islamic Jihad militants were wounded in gun battles between Israeli troops and gunmen in the area.

The number of such military raids against Palestinian militants in Gaza has increased since the Islamist Hamas group took over the territory by force this month. Israel pulled its forces and settlers out of the area in 2005.
