'Indira Knot' technique for carpets developed
Bhadohi, June 27: To alleviate the problems of carpet weavers, the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT) has developed a new technique named 'Indira Knot'.
''The earlier technique of carpet knot tying was complicated and tedious. Therefore, to lessen the problems of carpet weavers, a new technique has been developed after a lengthy research work,'' IICT Director Dr K K Goswami said here.
The 'Indira Knot' technique will not only boost production, but will also take lesser time, he claimed.
Besides, it would enhance the beauty of carpets with its simple knots, resulting in better designs.
The technique will prove profitable with an increase in the weavers' income, Dr Goswami noted.
Meanwhile, Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) administrative committee member Dr Rajendra Prasad Tripathi said the new method will reduce the cost of production and beautify the craftsmanship of carpets.
