ESPN Star acquires mobile rights for Wimbledon

New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) Asia's leading sports broadcaster ESPN Star Sports today said it has acquired the mobile rights for the world's premier tennis Grand Slam event, Wimbledon.

As per the agreement, Mobile ESPN will offer a comprehensive range of mobile content from the global tennis event to consumers in India.

''With a growing audience for sports like Soccer, Motosports and Tennis, there is a huge market to be tapped. We expect a significant demand for video clips of exciting moments of Wimbledon given the popularity of the tournament in India,'' said ESPN Software India Vice-President (Business Development and New Media) Sanjay Kailash.

This is just the beginning of a series of events that Mobile ESPN is planning to unleash on the mobile platform, Mr Sanjay added.

Mobile ESPN will aggregate a Wimbledon 2007 zone on the WAP portals of all the leading telcos in India including Airtel, Hutch, Idea, and BSNL.

''Wimbledon content will also be available to R-World and Tata Indicom users. We have created special Wimbledon packs for users.

Mobile users can download unlimited content at a rental of Rs 99 from the zone or pay per download,'' he said.

Mobile ESPN services can be availed by dialling 505-ESPN on the phone or by sending an SMS to (ESPN) 3776, which is the company's short code nationally.

The mobile ESPN service will provide the official video clips, match score updates, player specific contents, wallpapers and the official Wimbledon ringtone 'Purple and Green'.
