Drive to check edible oil adulteration
Chandigarh, June 27 (UNI) In order to check adulteration, the Chandigarh Administration has banned the sale of edible oil unless packed in a container marked and labelled confirming to standards of quality provided under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, According to an official press release here, the authorities today promulgated the Chandigarh Edible Oils Packaging (Regulation) Order 2007, under the provisions of which no person can sell or expose for sale or distribute any edible oil which does not confirm to the above act.
Those who are engaged in the business of packing were now required to get themselves registered with the District Food and Supplies and Consumer Affairs Officer, Chandigarh Administration, for which the registration fees of Rs 10,000 would be charged for 3 years, the release added.
