Demarcation of Holy Bein to be completed soon

Kapurthala, June 27 (UNI) The demarcation work of the Holy Bein is being taken up on warfooting in the sub-divison of Sultanpur Lodhi, Bholath and Kapurthala and would be completed within a fortnight.

The district administration has started erecting the pillars while digging of ponds in the villages was nearly complete, barring in six villages where the land acquisition process was under progress, said Deputy Commissioner J.M. Balamurugan, after a meeting to review the project.

Mr Balamurugan claimed that more two dozen villages falling in Kapurthala had stopped putting sewrage water into the Holy bein.

The work on the alternate arrangements to stop the flow of sewerage water of Begowal and Bholath would be started next week as soil conservation department had purchased the pipes, he said.

The laying of pipe work would be executed by the followers of Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, the renowned environmentalist who led the 'karsewaks' (volunteers) to cleanse the rotting Holy bein, then known as Kali Bein.

The meeting which continued for more than two hours was attended among others by the officers of revenue, forest, drainage, soil conservation and horticulture department besides Baba Sukhjit Singh, an ardent follower of Baba Seechewal.
