Assailant hacked to death by villagers
Rourkela, Jun 27 (UNI) Irate villagers hacked to death an assailant yesterday who tried to flee after killing one Upendra Kujur suspecting him of playing a major role in his arrest in a dacoit case.
Police and Ranjit Kujur and Upendra Kujur of Teterkela village under Rajgangpur police station were waiting at Jampalli chhak when Jogeswar Lakra of the same village arrived at the spot and fired at Upendra from his pistol at close range.Upendra died on his way to the Hospital Jogeswar after committing the crime managed to escape from the spot but was caught by the villagers who assaulted him with lethal weapons killing him on the spot.
The villagers later went to his house and attacked his sister Sumitra and mother Lali.Rajgangpur police rushed to the spot rescued injured Sumitra and Lali and admitted them in Rajgangpur Government hospital.
Police said Jogeswar Lakra was in judicial custody in connection with a dacoity case and he suspected Upendra's role in his arrest for which he wanted to eliminate him.
No one has been arrested in connection with the incident, Sundargarh Superintendent of Police S Prabin Kumar said.
