ASC driver, SPO commit suicide in Jammu

Jammu, June 27 (UNI) An Army jawan and a Special Police Officer (SPO) today committed suicide in this region of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

A jawan, identified as Sepoy Ram Pal of 5131 Army Services Corps (ASC) battalion, who was a driver on transit duty, shot himself with his service INSAS rifle at 215 Transit Camp at Bari Brahamana in the outskirts of city, police said.

''He had come from Srinagar to Jammu with an Army convoy day before yesterday,'' official sources said, adding that a suicide note was also recovered from jawan.

The Sepoy was also under depression as he was facing military trails in a hit-and-run case, sources disclosed.

Army has instituted a Court of Inquiry to probe.

In another case, an SPO, identified as Sandeep Kumar, 24, shot himself with his AK-47 rifle while on Sentry duty at Chhatru police station in Kishtwar district.

Police have registered the incidents.
