500 students to compete in national spelling competition in Goa
Panaji, Jun 27 (UNI) As many as 500 participants will participate in the three day national-level MaRRS International Speeling Bee competition will be held in Goa from June 29 to July 1.
The spelling competition for school children will see the 500 participants who qualified from various State competitions slug it out for the top spot.
The participants are from Kerala, Andra Pradesh, Mahdya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Mahatrastra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal, Pondichery, Daman&Diu and also Goa.
Chief Executive of MaRRS Intellectual service Suresh Kumar told mediapersons today that this was the first spelling competion in Asia for school chidren, organised in assocoation with Cambridge University Press.
''The main objective of the competition is to enahance the spelling and litetary skills of children by encouraging them to explore English language, expand their vocubulary and improve their communication and comprehension skills,'' he said.
The MaRRS International spelling Bee is is being conducted in 18 States in india and also UAE. The competition would be launched in Japan, Sri Lanka, Bangaldesh and Nepal shortly, he said.
National Champion Coordinator Givagi Borkar said the Championship will be conducted in 6 different categories.
The competation will start on June 29 with four written rounds.
Catagory I: Dictation, Identify the correct spelt word, complete the sentence and picture Crossword. Category: 2-6 Dictation, Jumbled word, complete the Idiom and Crossword.
The competation on the second day will be the oral round and the pick and spell rounds. All the participants would go through all the rounds conducted on the first two days of the championship.
Based on the cumulative score, the participants in the rounds conducted on the first and second day. Students would be selected to participate in the final - Identify the word from pronuciation key and spell it. The round on the final day is on July 1. In case of any tie after this round, tie breaker would be a final oral round, Mr Borkar added.
Trophies, Cerificates, Commemorative gold coin and gifts will be presented to the first, second and third place winners in each category.
