48-hour Economic blockade ends in three Bengal districts

Midnapur, Jun 27 (UNI) Life was completely paralysed following the 48-hour economic blockade which ended in the three districts of West Midnapur,Bankura and Purulia today.

The most affected areas were Belpahari, Goaltore, Salboni and Lalgarh in West Midnapore District, Bandoyan in Purulia district and entire Bankura District, where most of the shops and market were closed and buses did not ply at all, District Magistrate West Midnapur District, Bhabani Prashad Barat said.

SDO of Jhargram, Eron Ebrahim Israel said, Maoist literatures were found in some places and the large contingents of Police were stationed in the forest areas.

A spokesman of the Maoist party in these areas said that the movement had been launched against Government over-enthusiasm for setting up big industries by snatching lands from the poor peasants, specially in Nandigram and Singur.

He added that the party would go for a greater movement in near future.
