Government doctors' retirement age enhanced

Hyderabad, June 26 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today decided to enhance retirement age of the government doctors from the present 58 to 60 years in the state.

The decision was taken after considering the acute shortage of qualified specialists in government medical colleges in the state.

Officials said though the state government had taken up various measures to overcome the shortage, it did not yield the desired results.

About 94 Professors would retire during 2007 and 2008.

The Chief Minister would lay the foundation stone for the new government medical college at Ongole in Prakasam distirct on July one, officials added.
