Can Task Force alter country's nuclear policy? : Vajpayee

New Delhi, June 26 (UNI) Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today asked the Government to clarify if the Task Force constututed to consider issues like nuclear disarmament and Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty intended to change the country's accepted practices.

Making a special reference in his address at the BJP National Executive, Mr Vajpayee sought to know from the govenrment if this Task Force, set up to advise the government on the ongoing Indo-US Nuclear deal talks, had any mandate to alter Indian policies to suit United States.

Mr Vajpayee said BJP President Rajnath Singh, in his inaugural address, had detailed the ill-effects of the country issuing a warning against succumbing to the US pressures. ''This was the reason, the opposition had expressed its reservations so that the gains made in the nuclear field by the country should not be squandered away by any wrong move,'' BJP Spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy cited him as saying in his media briefing.
