Award for Navodaya Grama Vikash Charitable Trust

Mangalore, June 26 (UNI) The city-based Navodaya Grama Vikash Charitable Trust has been selected as the best Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in the state by NABARD for successfully helping in the formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the state.

Addressing a press conference here today the Trust Managing Trustee and Karnataka Apex Bank Chairman M N Rajendrakumar said the award would be presented by the bank at the function to be held on June 12 here.

He said the trust, which had come into existence in 2004, had formed a total of 25,774 SHGs, of which 15,585 were women SHGs.

The trust in association with the SCDCC bank had helped in formation of the SHGs in undivided Dakshina Kannada, Uttar Kannada, Dharward, Shimoga, Mysore and Chikmagalore districts.

It had also organised health camps and extended a helping hand to poor patients, ailing from cancer, kidney failure and heart trouble, he added.

He said as on March 31, 2007, 31,086 SHGs were formed in the divided Dakshina Kannada district in association with various cooperative societies and NGOs.

The bank had provided financial assistance to the tune of 54.26 crore to 15,815 SHGs.
