Islamabad, June 25 (UNI) Pakistan has categorically denied the presence of Indian prisoners of war (PoWs) and military detention centres on its soil.

''There are no military detention centres in Pakistan nor are there Indian POWs present in the country,'' Foreign Office Spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam told press persons here today.

She said Pakistan was not obliged to allow the families of Indian POWs to visit the country and some jails as efforts to find missing people in Pakistan.

She said the families were allowed to visit jails with a view to enable them to arrive at a closure.

Ms Aslam pointed out that had there been any POWs, Pakistan would not have taken the initiative of establishing a committee of retired judges to monitor the situation with regard to civilian prisoners in both the nations.

''There is dire need to resolve the humanitarian problem of civilian prisoners by operationalising the committee,'' she added.

She replied in negative when asked if India had shared results of investigations into Samjhauta Express inferno that killed more than 60 Pakistanis in February.
