Woman commits suicide in Kashmir,another nearly ends her life
Srinagar, June 24 (UNI) A woman committed suicide while another nearly ended her life in the Kashmir valley today, police said.
A 32-year-old woman, Rafiqa Begum, a resident of Jaggerpora in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, died after consuming some poisonous substance today, they added.
Police have registered a case and taken up investigations.
A 14-year-old girl, Shanu of Banoora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance.
She was immediately rushed to the SMHS hospital here.
The predominantly Muslim Kashmir valley has witnessed a sharp increase in the incidents of suicide in the recent past owing to varied reasons such as unemployment, marital discord, failed love affairs and failure of students.
Meanwhile, Mulak Raj Verma, 48, was found dead in mysterious circumstances in his residence at Punjabi Mohalla in Kupwara.
Police have initiated proceedings under section 174 CrPC to ascertain the cause of the death.
