Upper classes cry hoarse over dwindling share in politics
Patna, Jun 24(UNI) With a view to regaining their share in politics, leaders of upper castes, cutting across party lines, today announced to hold a three-day ''Chintan Shivir'' to discuss the issue, in Nalanda next month.
Representatives of the newly formed S-4 group of upper castes, floated by leaders of different political parties, including JD(U) state council member Sanjay Verma, former state president of the party Ram Bihari Singh, former state president of the students' wing of the JD(U) Brahmharshi Chandrabhushan Rai and Shakar Azad of Bhartiya Janata Party told news persons here that the so called 'progressive' minded people were utilising the word ''sawarn'' with the sole motive to wipe out the existance of the upper caste people.
They jointly said thissawarnclass which had strived for the betterment of all castes and the society as a whole was now feeling frustrated.
Quoting the survey of economic status of the 'sawarn' classes, they pointed out that 90 per cent of them were equivlent to the status of dalits and backwards. All indicators of the economic standards were in favour of providing reservation to the sawarn classes, they added.
