Three killed, 36 seriously injured in road accident
Kancheepuram, June 24 (UNI) Three people, including two women were killed and 36 seriously injured when a mini-van in which they were travelling collided with a container lorry at Thozhupedu bridge in Acharapakam in this district this evening.
Police said the mishap occurred when the van carrying a marriage party was proceeding to Villupuram from Manali near Chennai, while the lorry, coming from the opposite direction, was going to Chennai from Villupuram.
A woman was killed on the spot.
Of the 38 injured, 18 were admitted in Madurantagam government hospital and the remaining 20 in Chengalpattu government hospital, where another woman and a man succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased were yet to be identified.
Traffic at Chennai-Tiruchirapalli National Highways was disrupted for about 30 minutes following the accident.
A police team led by Madurantagam Deputy Police Superintedent Chandrasekaran rushed to the spot and registered a case.
Investigation was underway, police added.
UNI
