Submit Thorat Committee's report in LS: Dalit Sena

Chennai, June 24: The Tamil Nadu state unit of the Dalit Sena has appealed the Centre to place the Thorat Committee's report on the floor of the Lok Sabha in the ensuing winter Session and to take suitable action based on the recommendations of the Committee.

The Committee was appointed by the Union Government to go into the allegations on the discriminatory attitude towards the SC ST students in the All India Medical Sciences (AIMS), and other higher educational institutions, by the respective heads of the institute.

It had submitted its report to the government on May five.

Tamil Nadu Dalit Sena President A M Palaanimuthu said in a press release here today, a resolution to this effect was adopted at the Dalit Sena's state executive meeting held here on June 23.

He said the meeting had urged the state government to provide adequate reservation for Dalits and women to the post of President and members of the Cooperative institutions, in the ensuing Cooperative polls.

He demanded that the government should include the reservation provision in its gazette notification in connection with the proposed Cooperative polls.

The meeting demanded that the government should implement reservation quota for the SCs, STs and OBCs in both the government and private higher educational institutions and colleges, especially in the self financing engineering colleges.

It also wanted the government to withdraw its recognition for private educational institutions, which were not following the Government Reservation Policy.

The meeting expressed its concern over the Kerala government's recent conditions on issuing SC ST certificates to the Tamil Dalits living in the neighbouring state and appealed the Kerala state government to withdraw such impractical conditions and issue the SC ST certificates to the needy and eligible Dalits.
