RPG unveils high potential Spencer's super store

Kolkata, Jun 24: RPG Enterprises today unveiled the first Spencer's super store in the city with a high expectation of growth in retail sales in the city as well as the country.

RPG Enterprises Vice-Chairman Sanjiv Goenka said that the company would be opening 40 more stores in the city this fiscal, with an investment of more than Rs 100 crore. This is the sixth super store in India.

Currently, Spencer has 175 outlets, including 10 hyper-markets, six super markets, three fresh and 25 express markets across 30 cities in India.

Mr Goenka also said that RPG's retail outlets were expected to grow upto 2,000 stores by 2009 and 5000 by 2011 with a total investment of around Rs 1,000 crore.

Spencer was first started in Chennai in 1863 by John William Spencer. Currently, it has a consumer base of over 35 million people. who can purchase any product right from grocery to healthcare under one roof.
