Referendum to assess who should be next Prez

Puducherry, June 24: The Puducherry-based Manitha Neya Makkal Seva Iyyakkam (MNMSI) conducted a referendum at three different centres in Puducherry town yesterday, on the next President.

The voters were given a ballot paper containing the name of President A P J Abdul Kalam and the other candidates, the President of the movement G Nehru told a press conference here.

The sample referendum brought an overwhelming support to Dr Kalam, he added.

Mr Nehru said the appeal of the people that President Kalam should contest for a second term would be sent to him by fax.

The Constitution should be suitably amended to ensure that President of the country was chosen by direct election, he added.
