Ramsetu: Swaroopanand fires broadside at Centre
Narsinghpur, MP, June 24 (UNI) Dwarka Sharda Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati today accused the Centre of turning Nelson's eye on the Ramaswami Mudaliar Commission Report regarding the Palk Strait's Ramsetu.
''Documents pertaining to the report of the Commission -- constituted during the premiership of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru -- went missing. The Report recommended the Ramsetu not be demolished.
A Defence Ministry report said that demolishing the Ramsetu would be lethal from the point of view of coastal security,'' he claimed at the Jhoteshwar Ashram at Gotegaon.
Wondering why the Centre was ignoring these facts, the seer quoted a study making it clear that large ships would be unable to pass even after the demolition of the setu.
''The debris is being collected at the coast. Sometime later, waves will spread it along the coast thereby preventing passage of even small ships. Such intervention might cause environmental problems,'' he added.
On a different issue, the seer said portraying political leaders as gods and goddesses was the height of flattery.
