Nepal to hold election of constituent assembly on Nov 22

Kathmandu, June 24 (UNI) The Nepal government has decided to hold Constituent Assembly polls on November 22 to draft a new constitution which will decide the future of monarchy in the Himalayan nation.

''The Cabinet has reached a conclusion to hold the polls on November 22 and we are confident that they will be held on the fixed date,'' said government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communication Krishna Bahadur.

The Cabinet meeting held at the official residence of Prime Minister Girija Prasad today set the new date.

Earlier, the government had decided to hold the election of in June which was postponed as the Election Commission wanted more time for the preparation of the polls.

The first meeting of Constituent Assembly would decide the fate of now suspended monarchy which ruled the nation for nearly 239 years.

All the major political parties and civil society had strongly opposed monarchy and wanted to abolish the institution.
