LCC scandal: SC to hear Punjab govt's plea tomorrow

New Delhi, June 24 (UNI) The Supreme Court will hear tomorrow a petition filed by the Punjab government seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to Raninder Singh, son of former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh , who along with his father and other family members is facing allegations of involvement in about Rs 2000 crore Ludhiana City Centre(LCC) scandal.

A Vacation Bench comprising Justices Tarun Chatterjee and P K Balasubramanyan will also decide whether to grant an interim stay against the Punjab and Haryana High Court judgement granting ancipatory bail to Raninder Singh and his brother-in-law Raminder Singh.

Punjab Vigilance Bureau has been pressing for custodial interrogation of Capt Singh, his media advisor B I S Chahal, former Punjab Minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh and other associatess.

The Supreme Court, on last Monday, had refused to entertain the appeals of the state government against Capt Singh, Chahal, Sunil Sharma, Sayed Hasan Naqvi and P K Dhishukhi on the grounds that the High Court was already seized of the matter which is fixed for a hearing on July 4.

According the prosecution,the biggest shopping complex in the country was to come up on 26 acres of land in Ludhiana and contract was awarded to a particular company in violation of rules and the then Congress governmemt headed by Capt Singh did not take action in the matter deliberately and Capt Singh and his family members made about Rs 100 crore illegally through corrupt means.

The apex court has already issued a notice to former Punjab Minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh.
