Government announces solatium of Rs 50,000

Bangalore, June 24 (UNI) The Karnataka Government today announced a solatium of Rs 50,000 to kin of those killed in the rain related incidents in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, after meeting the affected in Bijapur district, said Rs 10,000 was being distributed to those whose houses were damaged completely and Rs 5,000 to those whose houses were partially damaged.

Meanwhile, unofficial reports put the total death toll at 49.

The worst affected districts were Bijapur, Bagalkot, Raichur, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan and Belgaum.

On raising the compensation, he said a decision on this would be taken after availing the Centre's calamity fund.

''There is no dearth of funds. The state will provide additional funds for rehabilitation if needed,'' he added.
