CPI favours "Alternative Front", not UNPA: Bardhan

Hyderabad, June 24 (UNI) CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan today said the party was in favour of an 'alternative' to the Congress and BJP, but it would not support the recently-constituted United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA).

Addressing a party meeting here, Mr Bardhan said ''we prefer an alternative, not the Third Front. The Alternative Front should come through only common struggles on peoples' issues and not to fight against the Congress and BJP to gain political advantage.'' Demanding that the Third Front field their Presidential candidate, the CPI leader suggested they contest and not make statements exhibiting their ''double standards.'' UNI
