Contagious diseases toll over 350 in UP district

Mainpuri, June 24 (UNI) Despite being declared the 'model district' three years ago, outbreak of contagious diseases combined with inadequate medical facilites has so far claimed over 350 lives here.

Last year, 200 people had died of contagious diseases. The maximum deaths were reported from Sultanganj, Ghiror and Baibar Block.

Lack of qualified doctors and medical facilities in the area has added to woes of the patients. Ironically, there are only three basic health workers for over 250 villages of Sultanganj Block.

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Sunder Lal Sachan told UNI here that the drive aganist cantagious diseases was underway. A control room is being opened at the district headquarters, while medical teams had been sent to the affected districts.

The rural areas have been provided required medicines and medical staff, besides DDT sprayed to curb mosquito breeding, he claimed.
