AP: 41,050 cusecs surplus water let into sea

Vijayawada, June 24: Surplus water of 41,050 cusecs was discharged into the sea from Prakasam barrage today, due to heavy rains in catchment areas and flooding of streams here.

Irrigation department officials told UNI that the release of water was in accordance with the inflows of 49,861 cusecs received due to heavy rains.

The department also released about 2,061 cusecs of water to the irrigation canals. Of the 70 crest gates of the barrage, 28 gates were lifted upto one ft, 10 were lifted upto two ft and the remaining 32 were closed, the officials added.

The water level of the barrage was, however, maintained at 12 ft.
