Women misuse Anti dowry law against husbands: Prashanth

Chennai, June 23 (UNI) Popular Kollywood actor Prashanth, who is fighting a legal battle for divorce from his estranged wife Grihalakshmi, today said misuse of the anti-dowry law by women should be prevented.

Talking to reporters at a meeting organised by ''Save India Family Foundation'', an organisation formed by 'affected' husbands, he said the anti-dowry law had become an easy tool for women to file complaints against husbands and their in-laws whenever there were differences of opinion.

''I have been in the industry for over 15 years and have won many friends and admirers through my films. My parents arranged the wedding. I had spoken to Grihalakshmi several times before our marriage'' ''Unfortunately after the wedding, problems started. She chose to stay away from me. I made several efforts to live together and even filed a petition in a family court seeking directions to instruct my wife to live with me,'' he added.

The actor said, Grihalakshmi chose to file an anti-dowry complaint against him, which ''besmirched'' his family. ''We were also forced to get anticipatory bail,'' he pointed out.

''Sadly, the anti-dowry law was being misused by women these days and efforts should be taken to ensure that the law serves its real purpose'', he added.
