Three killed and as many injured in landslide in HP
Hamirpur, June 23 (UNI) Three people, including a child, were killed and as many were seriously hurt after they were buried under a landslide triggered by heavy rains at Purli village in this district of Himachal Pradesh today.
Hamirpur SDM R K Purthi told UNI here that the incident occurred at Purli village, about 38 km from here, on the Hamirpur-Kakker road at about noon following heavy rains in the region.
He said local people helped police extricate the people from the debris immediately after they were informed about the incident.
While three people died on the spot, as many injured in the accident were rushed to a government hospital here.
Doctors described their condition as serious, he said.
Mr Purthi said the dead included a three-year-old boy identified as Harish. Chandu Ram, (60) and his wife Banarsi Devi (55) were injured in the incident, besides Budhi Singh.
The other two who lost their lives in the accident were identified as Sushma Devi and Julfi Ram the SDM said, adding, that their bodies have been handed over to their relatives after post-mortems.
Former State Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal visited the accident site and expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.
He also called upon the state government to announce a cash relief to the kin of the dead and the injured.
