State wide raid in all the jails in UP: several mobile phones seized

Lucknow June 23(UNI) Uttar Pradesh police today conducted state wide raids in all the central and district jails in the state and seized large number of mobile phones and other banned articles from the possession of the prisoners.

State prison department sources said that the raids were conducted following the tip-off that of prisoners were using mobile phones and other prohibited articles inside the jails.

'' In some places police used some force against the prisoners to snatch their mobile phones and other things but no untoward incident was reported from anywhere'', sources claimed.

The raids were ordered by the jail department following an instruction by the state government to clean the jails and to check the criminal elements from operating from the prisons.

Similar raids were conducted on the directives of the Election Commission during the assembly polls in March in which large scale violence were reported from different jails.

A report from Sultanpur said two mobile phones, eight mobile chargers, several heaters and stoves were recovered from the district jail while from Bulandshahar jail four mobile phones, 2 CD players, 200 CDs and other things were seized.

In Pratapgarh, one knife along with several mobile phoness were seized while in Basti Rs 10,000 in cash, 3 mobile phone, one CD player, 45 CDs and other objectionable materials were seized.

Reports of raids were also received from Balia, Lalitpur, Mathura, Sidharthnagar, Hardoi and other parts of the state.
